Danny Torgl: Master of Body Sculpting and Fitness 

Biography 

Early Life 

Born on January 21, 1960, at St. Mary's Hospital in Long Beach, California, Danny Torgl's journey to becoming a fitness icon began with a transformative move to Sevilla, Spain, where his mother hailed from. Growing up on a ranch in her hometown, he learned the values of hard work and discipline through daily chores, setting the foundation for his future endeavors. 
Influences and Early Fitness Journey 

Danny’s early inspiration came from his uncle Manolo, a custom leather shoemaker whose impressive biceps were a result of years spent pushing needles through tough leather. He told Danny; "Someday you'll have big arms like your uncle Danny because you really want to be like your uncle" This firsthand exposure to strength ignited a fire in Danny, shaping his aspirations for fitness and muscularity. 

At just 14, he received his first barbell—a humble, plastic-coated concrete set—from his father, a Marine returning from war. This moment marked the dawn of his fitness journey. He thrived in sports, excelling in football, baseball, and basketball, but it was gymnastics that truly captured his heart and starting shaping his body naturally. By 16, bodyweight exercises on the rings, high bar, and floor became his passion, laying the groundwork for his future in bodybuilding. 

Competitive Bodybuilding 

Danny's high school years were marked by his dedication to weightlifting, inspired by a senior who resembled Conan the Barbarian. His relentless pursuit of excellence led to numerous accolades, including winning several pull-up challenges, earning Best Physique, and being crowned King of Prom. In December 1978, just shy of his 19th birthday, he made his competitive debut in bodybuilding, achieving an impressive third place. 

His training journey took him across San Diego, where he honed his skills in renowned gyms such as Miramar Military Base, Leo Sterns Gym, Jack LaLanne's, Gold's Gym, Worlds Gym and more. A pivotal turning point came when he met the legendary Vince Gironda in 1981, the trainer of Arnold Schwarzenegger and other bodybuilding icons. Under Gironda’s mentorship, Danny refined his techniques and developed life-changing training philosophies that would shape his future. 

Between the ages of 21 and 26, Danny competed in 17 events, claiming numerous first-place victories. In 1983, he coached Kris Alexander to her first show victory, which led her to appear in "Pumping Iron II: The Women." This experience introduced him to bodybuilding legends like Joe Gold, Rachel McLish, and Joe Weider, further solidifying his place in the fitness community. 

During this time, he also met Tamilee Webb, another rising star in fitness, who would go on to become a household name with her "Buns of Steel" videos.

With all of the exposure being created and labeled biggest bodybuilder in San Diego at 297 pounds at 5'11" of height with 23 inch arms and 34 inch thighs. They also labeled Danny as "Latzilla" for his enormous back that looked similar but larger than Arnold Schwarzeneggers. 
Danny also won several supporting roles in several movies, ( Hercules with Lou Ferrigno, Birds of Prey and Expendables 4 ), also several television commercials and magazine advertisements in Muscle and Fitness, Flex and Muscle Development. 
Coaching and Achievements 

Danny's expertise as a coach has transformed the lives of countless athletes, culminating in over 2,000 collective bodybuilding wins, including more than 500 top-five finishes. His accolades include three Natural Bikini Olympia titles and significant victories at the World Cup and with Team USA. 

### Bodyguard for the Stars 

In addition to his bodybuilding career, Danny served as a bodyguard for numerous celebrities, including Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Milla Jovovich, and Tom Cruise. Notably, he worked during the filming of "Top Gun" at Miramar in San Diego, providing security for major music acts of the 80s and 90s, such as Van Halen and Ted Nugent. His diverse experiences in the entertainment industry enriched his life and career. 

Entrepreneurial Ventures 

As a successful entrepreneur, Danny has owned two gyms and currently operates OnPoint Gym in Wofford Heights, California, alongside his wife, Tawnya Torgl. His mission is to transform lives through fitness, and he is in the process of developing a state-of-the-art 8,000-square-foot fitness center to further his impact on the community. 

Legacy and Vision 

Danny Torgl's journey from a Spanish ranch to the pinnacle of fitness is a testament to perseverance, dedication, and an unwavering passion for health. He continues to inspire others, demonstrating the profound effects that fitness can have on individuals and their families.
Reflecting on his 48-year career in the fitness industry, Danny cites a particularly poignant moment: flying to Chicago to help induct his dear friend Tamilee Webb into the National Fitness Hall of Fame in 2024. Witnessing her acceptance of this honor alongside his mentor, Vincent Anselmo Gironda and many other fitness icons was a heartfelt culmination of his journey, filled with incredible connections and shared histories. At this event at the 2024 National Fitness Hall of Fame event Danny Torgl was unanimously voted as America's Top Trainer and Gym Owner. 

One year later Danny Torgl was voted in and inducted  "unanimously" into the 2025 National Fitness Hall of Fame as a fitness expert and fitness influencer alongside fitness icons from over the past 100 years.
